LAWRENCE, Kan. — In a tragic series of events, one person has died and two others have been hospitalized due to suspected fentanyl overdoses in Lawrence. The incidents occurred within a span of approximately six hours, prompting an urgent investigation by local authorities.

Lawrence police were first alerted to an overdose around 9:30 p.m. near East 9th Street and Connecticut Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of a 39-year-old man. The circumstances surrounding his overdose are currently under investigation.

Approximately 30 minutes later, officers were called to another overdose incident less than two miles away, at West 4th Street and Illinois Street. Emergency responders swiftly transported a 19-year-old victim to a nearby hospital. At the time of arrival, the teenager was in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the situation.

The third overdose call came in at approximately 3:45 a.m. near North 1st Street and Maple, at the Lawrence homeless support site. Workers at the camp informed the officers that they had administered seven doses of Narcan to a 39-year-old woman before their arrival. Police reported that the woman had a pulse and was breathing when she was taken to the hospital.

Law enforcement authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation into all three suspected fentanyl overdoses. Their primary focus is to identify the source of the drugs and hold those responsible accountable.
