Democrats counter that former President Donald Trump engaged in similar activities that the GOP now accuses Biden of. The GOP claims Biden took foreign money through his son Hunter’s business, yet they concede lacking direct proof.

The House GOP, investigating Hunter Biden, has subpoenaed bank records, business partner testimonies, and IRS whistleblower allegations. However, they struggle to find a smoking gun while dismissing contrary evidence.

During the legislation markup, U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM) noted that Trump did take foreign money while in office. She cited Hunter Biden’s partner, Devon Archer, who testified that Joe and Hunter Biden never discussed business matters.

Fernandez referred to a Politico report from December 2022, stating, Trump’s taxes show foreign income for more than a dozen countries. She emphasized that Trump received income from various countries during his presidency, suggesting possible conflicts of interest.

Fernandez argued that the focus should be on Biden’s actions as a private citizen, highlighting the separation between Joe Biden and his family, unlike Trump. She stressed that Trump’s income came while he was President, unlike Biden.

The debate revolves around whether GOP claims against Biden are a valid concern or a political ploy. As the impeachment inquiry gains momentum, the comparison to Trump’s foreign income adds complexity to the narrative.
