A recent survey by Rasmussen Reports reveals that a whopping 60% of likely U.S. voters think media bias is on the rise. The main culprit? A perceived lack of coverage on legal challenges involving President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. This marks a 4-point jump from March, showing a widespread belief that media bias is getting worse, with only 6% thinking it’s improving.
Even among Democrats, 44% feel media bias is increasing, while independents, by a significant 63%, see a decline. Only 4% of independents believe media bias is on the mend.
The crux of the issue revolves around how the media handles scandals tied to Hunter Biden and his father, President Joe Biden, as uncovered by three House committees. Republicans argue that mainstream media downplays these allegations, and the survey suggests voters are catching on.
Over half of respondents (51%) feel there’s not enough coverage of these alleged scandals, while 24% think it’s too much, and 19% find it just right.
Political affiliations play a big role. Supporters of President Biden tend to be happier with the media’s coverage, with 61% of strong Biden approvers rating it as good or excellent. On the flip side, 77% of strong Biden disapprovers give the media a poor rating.
Concerningly, 65% of respondents think the media’s coverage of the Bidens is fair to poor, with only 30% deeming it good to excellent.
Conducted from December 11 to 13, the survey involved 1,080 likely voters, boasting a 3% margin of error and a 95% confidence level. These results signal a growing unease among the public about media objectivity and its impact on shaping views of political figures.
