Legal expert Lisa Rubin from MSNBC has a tip for Donald Trump’s legal team: ditch the Nixon comparisons. In a chat with Alicia Menendez, Rubin pointed out some weak spots in Trump’s legal maneuvers.

Rubin highlighted a significant point where Trump suggests, Yes, the Supreme Court should step in, but not right now. According to Rubin, Trump’s reasons for the delay don’t hold much weight. One argument is that special counsel Jack Smith hasn’t suffered any real harm that warrants expediting the case to the High Court. Rubin, however, disagrees, stating that the stay resulting from Judge Tanya Chutkan’s opinion is indeed a tangible injury, preventing pretrial proceedings and the trial itself.

Trump’s claim that Jack Smith’s public interest plea is merely a partisan move is also challenged by Rubin. She emphasizes that understanding whether Trump faces criminal charges is a concern for the entire public, especially before making decisions at the ballot box.

Menendez questioned why Trump wouldn’t want to move forward if he believes in his innocence. Rubin’s response: it exposes Trump’s true intentions—delay tactics. She draws a parallel with Trump’s repeated references to Nixon, suggesting that Trump is avoiding the idea that former presidents could face criminal charges for actions during their tenure, much like Nixon’s situation with President Gerald Ford’s pardon.

In essence, Rubin urges Trump’s legal team to steer clear of Nixon associations and face the real issues at hand.
