The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic has raised concerns over the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) role in investigating the origins of COVID-19. According to information gathered by the Subcommittee, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was allegedly involved in the CIA’s review of COVID-19 origins.
The Subcommittee suggests that Dr. Fauci may have been discreetly escorted into CIA Headquarters, leaving no official record of his entry, to participate in the analysis and potentially influence the agency’s investigation.
The Subcommittee emphasizes the importance of uncovering the truth behind the virus’s origins and any potential efforts by public health authorities to suppress the lab leak theory for political or national security reasons. They assert that tracking Dr. Fauci’s movements during the pandemic is a reasonable inquiry, especially given his current status outside the federal government and Inspector General protection.
The Subcommittee had previously revealed evidence suggesting that Dr. Fauci may have influenced researchers away from the lab leak theory and misled Congress about his involvement in the investigation. They also hinted that he may have played a significant role in writing the controversial paper titled “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2.”
In a memorandum released on March 5, the Subcommittee pointed out that evidence indicates Dr. Fauci encouraged Dr. Kristian Andersen of Scripps Research to write the paper with the goal of disproving the lab leak theory. Contradicting the researchers’ claims that Dr. Fauci did not influence their work, the Subcommittee raised doubts about the evidence supporting these statements.
Dr. Kristian Andersen’s email from February 8, 2020, was cited as evidence of the researchers’ intention to disprove any lab theory. Andersen had initially expressed concerns about the virus’s features appearing engineered but later changed his stance after speaking with Dr. Fauci.
On February 1, 2020, Dr. Fauci sent an email to his deputy, Dr. Hugh Auchincloss, containing a paper by Dr. Ralph Baric and Dr. Zhengli-Li Shi from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), known as the “bat woman.” The paper highlighted taxpayer-funded gain-of-function research conducted by WIV. Dr. Fauci’s email stressed the importance of immediate communication and task completion.
After these communications arranged by Dr. Fauci, Dr. Andersen dramatically shifted his position to dismiss the idea of the virus being engineered. This change in perspective coincided with increased funding for Dr. Andersen’s research following the phone call with Dr. Fauci.
Despite these developments, the authors of “The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2” paper unequivocally stated that the lab leak theory was improbable and that their analysis indicated the virus was not a product of laboratory manipulation.
The FBI and the Department of Energy have independently supported the lab leak theory as the most likely origin of COVID-19.
