In a shocking incident in Reno, Nevada, a 17-year-old girl, Mashenka Reid, confessed to a 911 dispatcher that she “couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody” after allegedly taking the lives of her father and younger brother. The double homicide occurred on Silver Sky Parkway on February 9, 2024, as reported by Fox News.
Reid’s harrowing admission to the emergency services led officers to the Reid household, where they discovered a gruesome scene. Reid’s younger brother, aged approximately 4 or 5, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the head, while her father had multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and back. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors reported hearing arguing and gunshots from the Reid residence, and the tragedy could have escalated further if Reid’s mother and sister had not sought refuge in a locked bedroom, eventually being rescued by the police.
Law enforcement recovered a Walther PPS handgun believed to be the murder weapon. Reid, now facing charges as an adult, including two counts of open murder and one count of attempted murder, awaits a bail hearing scheduled for Thursday in Washoe County jail.
The motive behind the heinous act remains unknown, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, with the Reno Police Department making a public appeal for assistance. Secret Witness, an organization, is also offering a platform for anonymous tips.
As the case unfolds, the tragedy has left the Reno community questioning the safety and sanctity of their homes, with the shocking nature of the incident resonating through the neighborhood.
