Investigation into the tragic death of beloved actor Matthew Perry has taken a significant turn as authorities seek to uncover the source of the ketamine found in his system. Perry, known for his iconic role on “Friends,” was found dead at his Los Angeles mansion on October 20. An autopsy later determined that his death was accidental, caused by the acute effects of ketamine.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), is working diligently to trace the origins of the ketamine. They are investigating who provided the drug to Perry and under what circumstances. Adding a new layer to the probe, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has joined the investigation, utilizing their federal investigatory authorities to determine if Perry acquired the drugs through the mail.
Authorities are using package tracking and other mail-related investigative techniques to gather crucial information. Key Hollywood figures have been interviewed as part of the investigation. While these individuals are not necessarily the direct source of the ketamine, they may hold information that could lead to those responsible. As of now, no arrests have been made.
In December, the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Perry’s death was drug-related. Besides the acute effects of ketamine, drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine were also contributing factors. Toxicology reports revealed significant levels of ketamine in Perry’s system, sufficient to render him unconscious, akin to levels used for surgical anesthesia.
The Medical Examiner’s report noted that Perry had been prescribed ketamine as part of an infusion therapy treatment for depression and anxiety, administered every other day. However, a new doctor attempted to wean him off the drug four months before his death. The last prescription was given about a week and a half before his passing. The report emphasized that the ketamine levels in Perry’s system at the time of his death were inconsistent with his prescribed infusion therapy, suggesting another source.
The ongoing investigation underscores the complexities of drug-related deaths and the challenges in tracing illegal drug distribution.
