U.S. President Joe Biden sparked a flurry of speculation on social media after abruptly ending a rare White House press briefing on Monday, October 24. Addressing reporters, Biden announced his departure, stating he needed to deal with another pressing issue in the Situation Room. The unexpected move followed reports from Gaza that Hamas had agreed to release two additional hostages, intensifying the already high tensions in the region.

The White House did not confirm the reason for Biden’s sudden departure, but it is widely speculated that it is linked to escalating hostilities of Iran-backed militias in the West Asian region against U.S. forces. Simultaneously, tensions in Gaza have reached a critical point, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launching relentless attacks on the region. Overnight Israeli raids resulted in at least 150 casualties reported by Hamas.

“I apologize, I have to go to the Situation Room for another issue I have to deal with,” Biden told reporters, offering no further explanation.

During his earlier address, President Biden emphasized that Hamas must release hostages before any prospects of a ceasefire with Israel could be entertained. The International Committee of the Red Cross later confirmed the release of two more hostages by Hamas, identified as 85-year-old Yocheved Lifshitz and 79-year-old Nurit Cooper. This development followed the release of the first two hostages by the terrorist group on October 20. It is estimated that Hamas had taken at least 220 people hostage, including both foreigners and dual nationals.

Since the October 7 assault by Hamas on Israel, the conflict has taken a devastating toll. At least 1,400 Israelis have lost their lives, while the death toll in Palestine, encompassing the West Bank and Gaza, has tragically reached 5,100.

Biden expressed his relief at the release of the initial hostages by Hamas, stating, “Our fellow citizens have endured a terrible ordeal these past 14 days, and I am overjoyed that they will soon be reunited with their families, who have been wracked with fear.”

As the situation continues to unfold, the White House remains on high alert, closely monitoring developments in the Middle East amid growing concerns about regional stability and the safety of American citizens in the area.
