Volodymyr Zelenskiy Appeals for Global Support in the Face of Russian Aggression
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has made a heartfelt plea to U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to participate in an upcoming peace summit. This call for global unity comes as Ukraine faces relentless attacks from Russia, marking the 27th month of the invasion.
Push for International Participation
Zelenskiy aims to gather as many nations as possible for Kyiv-led talks in Switzerland next month. The goal is to unite global opinion on ending the war and increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been excluded from the summit.
In a video message recorded in the northeastern city of Kharkiv, within the ruins of a printing house destroyed by a recent Russian missile strike, Zelenskiy addressed world leaders in English. “I am appealing to the leaders of the world who are still aside from the global efforts of the Global Peace Summit – to President Biden, the leader of the United States, and to President Xi, the leader of China,” he said. “Please, show your leadership in advancing the peace – the real peace and not just a pause between the strikes.”

He stressed the importance of the summit in demonstrating global commitment to ending the conflict. Zelenskiy revealed that more than 80 countries are expected to attend. However, it remains uncertain if Biden will participate, and Beijing has yet to confirm its attendance.
U.S. Involvement and Russia’s Stance
A U.S. official confirmed that the United States will participate in the summit but did not specify who will represent the country or at what level.
Kyiv’s peace plan includes demands for a complete withdrawal of Russian troops and the restoration of Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders—terms that Moscow has dismissed. Recently, Russian sources indicated that Putin might consider a ceasefire that acknowledges current battlefield positions, a proposal Ukraine has rejected.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Putin of trying to undermine the summit due to fears of its potential success. “His entourage sends these phony signals of alleged readiness for a ceasefire despite the fact that Russian troops continue to brutally attack Ukraine while their missiles and drones rain down on Ukrainian cities and communities,” Kuleba stated on social media.

Ongoing Conflict in Kharkiv and Beyond
The northeastern city of Kharkiv has endured severe bombings, including a deadly missile strike on a printing house that killed seven civilians and another attack on a hardware store that claimed at least 14 lives.
In his address, Zelenskiy also warned of Moscow’s preparations for new offensive actions further northwest of Kharkiv along the Russian-Ukrainian border. Ukraine’s military is bracing for a possible Russian assault on the Sumy region, which neighbors Kharkiv, according to the army chief.
Conclusion
As Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty against Russian aggression, Zelenskiy’s call for a united global response through the peace summit highlights the urgent need for international cooperation. The participation of leaders like Biden and Xi could significantly influence the direction of efforts to end the conflict and restore peace in the region.
