Donald Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, faced scrutiny after her behavior in a New York courtroom caught the attention of The View co-hosts, particularly Whoopi Goldberg. Habba had rushed to the press, alleging mistreatment by Judge Arthur Engoron, claiming he had reprimanded her and asked her to “sit down,” leaving her feeling targeted.
During Monday’s episode of The View, Goldberg, addressing the audience after a discussion about a Broadway show with Joy Behar, brought attention to the ongoing civil fraud trial involving Trump. “With the presidential election just about a year away, one party’s frontrunner was in a familiar place yesterday, a courtroom,” Goldberg remarked. “You-know-who testified in his New York civil fraud trial, and not surprisingly, he was a little, you know, defiant and confrontational, as was his attorney.”
Goldberg emphasized her point by making crying baby gestures, rubbing her eyes to mimic Habba’s behavior in the courtroom. The show briefly went to commercial break before returning to the topic, where co-host Sunny Hostin, a former federal prosecutor, expressed her concerns about the lack of decorum in the courtroom. “There’s a certain decorum that must be in place and intact in a courtroom. The judge is the arbiter of that decorum, as is the lawyer,” Hostin stated. “That lawyer could not control her client. He lacked complete impulse control. It scared me that he had any proximity to nuclear codes for our country. He also implicated himself in the litigation and admitted legal things that would go against him.”
To underscore Trump’s lack of impulse control, former Trump aide Alyssa Farrah Griffin shared an incident involving a snarky comment made by a Senator. Despite her advice to refrain from responding, Trump impulsively tweeted after a brief pause, showcasing his inability to resist reacting to provocations.
Even Fox News, known for its conservative stance, issued a reality check to Habba on Tuesday, indicating her legal strategy was leading her towards an inevitable loss in court. The incident has raised questions about the ability of Trump and his legal team to maintain composure and professionalism during the high-stakes trial as the presidential election looms closer.
