Halle Berry is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her role as Catwoman in a memorable and unique way. The Oscar-winning actress marked the occasion by sharing a series of sultry, topless photos with her newly adopted kittens on social media.
On July 23, Berry took to Instagram to pay tribute to the DC Comics superhero film, which opened in theaters two decades ago. In the post, Berry is seen wearing her iconic Catwoman mask and posing with her adorable black kittens. She captioned the photo, “And STILL… meow! It’s been 20 years today since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life. She will always be close to my heart and I will forever be Patience Phillips aka CATWOMAN!”
Berry also shared the heartwarming story behind the kittens’ adoption. She revealed that the kittens had shown up in her yard and were rescued with the help of @missjee79. “Thank you @missjee79! When these black beauties showed up in my yard searching for their mother, Jee helped us through the rescue process. Forever grateful! ♥️,” Berry wrote.
In addition to her Instagram tribute, Berry addressed the film’s critics on X (formerly Twitter). Despite the movie’s initial poor reception and its 8% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Berry expressed gratitude to the fans who embraced the film. “Sometimes I’m good,” Berry’s tweet began, referencing her character’s monologue from the film. “THANK YOU to the fans who have embraced Catwoman (even if it was a little delayed). Patience Phillips is finally getting her due. Meow!”
Berry’s fans took to social media to defend and celebrate the film. Many expressed their admiration for Berry’s portrayal of Catwoman, describing the movie as formative and praising Berry for her resilience. Comments such as “this movie was FORMATIVE for me” and “this is MY catwoman, always and forever” highlight the film’s lasting impact on its audience.
Berry has also spoken about the challenges she faced with the film’s reception in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. Reflecting on the backlash, she noted the difficulties of being a Black woman in Hollywood and the impact of negative publicity. Despite receiving a Razzie award for her performance, Berry remained steadfast. “I didn’t want to be casual about it, but I went and collected that Razzie, laughed at myself, and kept it moving,” she said. “It didn’t derail me because I’ve fought as a Black woman my whole life. A little bad publicity about a movie? I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t going to stop my world or derail me from doing what I love to do.”
As Halle Berry marks this milestone, it’s clear that her portrayal of Catwoman continues to resonate with fans and remains a cherished part of her career.
