Fans of the beloved ’80s sitcom “The Facts of Life” were left disappointed when hopes for a reboot were dashed. Mindy Cohn, who played Natalie Green on the show, recently opened up about the reasons behind the project’s failure, attributing it to a business move by one of her co-stars.

A Spark of Hope
The possibility of a “The Facts of Life” reboot began to gain momentum after a 2021 special from the “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” series. During this event, stars like Octavia Spencer, Amy Poehler, and Jennifer Aniston expressed their admiration for the show, which sparked interest from the show’s creator, Norman Lear.

“There was this roundtable where they all said, ‘Yeah, our parents grew up with ‘All in the Family’ and ‘Maude,’ but we grew up with ‘Facts of Life.’ That’s the Norman Lear sitcom that we love,'” Cohn recalled. This newfound interest led to tentative plans for a revival, with discussions taking place over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Unexpected Betrayal
However, these plans were derailed when one of Cohn’s co-stars attempted to secure a solo spinoff series without informing the rest of the cast. This move “devastated” the cast and created a tidal wave of emotion within the group.

“For a 40-year friendship and sisterhood, there was a tidal wave of emotion around it,” Cohn shared. She revealed that while the cast is still on speaking terms with the unnamed co-star, the betrayal has left deep scars.

“Some people are so desperate for either money or fame that it causes them to do things that to me, I guess, I’m still not that jaded. It shocks me,” Cohn said. “You’re going to do that over money or that over becoming famous? It always just kind of freaks me out that people will do that. Throw friendships, deep true friendships, under the bus for a dollar.”

The End of an Era
Due to this incident, the prospects of a “The Facts of Life” reboot are “very dead,” according to Cohn. She mentioned that the actresses have “no desire to ever work together” again.

“A couple of people can’t move past it, don’t want to move past it. We are not as united. Let me put it that way,” Cohn said. “We were united for 40 years over not talking about each other, not doing dirty, not, you know, ‘all for one, one for all.’ And this kind of wrecked that, which is sad.”

The dream of a “The Facts of Life” reboot may be over, but the show’s legacy lives on. While fans may never see the cast reunite on screen, the impact of the show and the friendships it created remain a testament to its enduring appeal.
