Significant turn of events, rapper Cardi B has filed for divorce from Offset, marking the end of their seven-year marriage. This move, which marks her second attempt to end the relationship, was officially filed on Wednesday, July 31.
Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, first sought to dissolve her marriage to Offset in September 2020. While she initially withdrew the application, recent developments have led her to pursue the separation once again. In this latest filing, Cardi B is also seeking primary custody of their two children, daughter Kulture and son Wave.
In a candid interview on ‘The Jason Lee Show,’ Cardi B opened up about the troubled state of her marriage. “Me and Offset, we were not seeing eye-to-eye,” she revealed. “This was like, the same year I filed for divorce and everything. I’m gonna let him talk about this because the main thing that was really bothering me — I’m gonna let him say it. I want him to say it because I feel like that’s really part of his story.”
Despite previously withdrawing her divorce petition, Cardi B acknowledged Offset’s efforts to change. “The main thing that I wanted him to stop and everything, he stopped and he changed, and it showed me that he wanted to change for me,” she said.
Cardi B addressed speculation about her relationship, firmly denying any claims of abuse. “Y’all sound f*****g crazy when you start using the word ‘abusive.’ I’m not in a physically abusive relationship. I’m not in a mentally abusive relationship. I have choices,” she asserted.
Sources close to the couple have indicated that their marriage has been deteriorating for some time. According to PageSix, “They’ve grown apart. That’s what drove her to this decision more than anything else. This is something she wants to do.” Another insider added, “They both have been trying to figure out what their future looks like for a while now. It’s not something that happened overnight … They’ve both been on the same page. There wasn’t [pushback]. They’ve grown apart and that feeling has gotten stronger over time. It’s become unavoidable.”
