Fox News host Laura Ingraham faced significant backlash on social media after she mocked Vice President Kamala Harris for hugging people. During the Friday episode of “The Ingraham Angle,” Ingraham criticized Harris’ qualifications, calling her “unserious,” and ridiculed her laughter, a common critique from GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and conservative media figures.
Ingraham also targeted a speech Harris delivered at the 2022 Munich Security Conference, days before Russia invaded Ukraine. The Fox News host sarcastically praised Harris’ understanding of international affairs, then showed a clip of Harris’ speech warning of “war in Europe.”
“It’s better for her to stay in her sweet spot, as the hugger-in-chief,” Ingraham said, before airing a montage of Harris embracing various people, including Bill and Hilary Clinton at a memorial service for the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas).
Ingraham further stated that Harris, who has secured enough Democratic delegates to become the party’s nominee, lacks the experience to be president. “But she feels, and she laughs, and she hugs,” Ingraham scoffed.
The segment did not sit well with many on social media, who found Ingraham’s criticism baffling. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, commented, “Showing compassion and empathy is a bad thing in their book.” Another user highlighted Harris’ authenticity, calling it her “superpower” in contrast to what they described as the “grumpy, pompous, cruel” demeanor of her critics.
Donald Trump also faced mockery last month for calling Harris “Laughing Kamala” during a campaign rally in Michigan. The trend of attacking Harris for her demeanor appears to have struck a chord with many who see her warmth as a strength rather than a weakness.
