While staying away from the debate stage himself, Trump dominated the online conversation, targeting CBS News moderators, insulting Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and addressing sensitive topics like abortion and the January 6th Capitol attack.
The ex-president’s most notable statement during his live commentary was his unequivocal opposition to a federal abortion ban. “EVERYONE KNOWS I WOULD NOT SUPPORT A FEDERAL ABORTION BAN, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, AND WOULD, IN FACT, VETO IT,” Trump wrote emphatically, clarifying that such decisions should rest with the states. He echoed former President Ronald Reagan’s stance, voicing support for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother.
While Trump rejected the idea of a national abortion ban, he criticized Democrats for their “radical position” on late-term abortion, a talking point he has used throughout his political career. She’s having a bad night!” Trump sneered in one of his Truth Social posts.
Trump Takes Aim at Tim Walz
Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, also bore the brunt of Trump’s ire. Throughout the debate, Trump insulted Walz’s intelligence, repeatedly referring to him as “Low IQ” and mocking him for taking notes. Trump went as far as to revive an old conspiracy theory, calling Walz “Tampon Tim.”
“Tim Walz is not doing well. He is not qualified to be Vice President – Very much like Kamala, he is a TOTAL JOKE!” Trump declared during the debate, drawing comparisons to his frequent attacks on current Vice President Kamala Harris.
Post-debate, Trump didn’t hold back. He continued to praise his own running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, declaring that Vance “crushed it” while once again calling Walz a “Low IQ Disaster.”
