GOP Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has reignited a controversial conspiracy theory regarding the 2020 presidential election, claiming that Dominion Voting Systems machines are “switching” votes in her home state of Georgia. This assertion comes as early voting progresses in Georgia, where over a million ballots have already been cast.

The Claims

During an interview with Infowars host Alex Jones, Greene shared an anecdote about a voter who allegedly witnessed their vote for Donald Trump change after using a Dominion machine. “They marked Donald Trump and they marked who they were voting for the rest of the way down their ballot on the machine,” Greene explained. “When this voter printed their ballot and looked, it had changed. It was not Donald Trump.”

She emphasized that this voter faced repeated issues with the machine, stating, “It kept on switching the votes… It sounds similar to what we heard in 2020.” Greene’s remarks echo the false claims made by some Trump supporters after the 2020 election, which accused Dominion machines of flipping votes from Trump to President Joe Biden.

Dominion’s Response

A spokesperson for Dominion Voting Systems quickly responded to Greene’s allegations, stating that the company has been subjected to ongoing defamation, including long-debunked claims. Dominion’s official website highlights that numerous audits and recounts conducted since November 2020 have confirmed the accuracy and integrity of election results. Additionally, all Dominion systems are designed with voter-verifiable paper ballots, making the alleged “vote switching” an ineffective method for manipulating election outcomes.

Lack of Evidence

Greene also took to social media, sharing her claims on X (formerly Twitter) and referencing an anonymous post that described a similar experience in Whitfield County, Georgia. “Good thing they checked their paper ballot before turning it in!” she noted in her post. Despite her assertions, there is no credible evidence that Dominion machines have switched votes in this election or any previous ones.

Furthermore, investigations have found no evidence of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election that could have altered the outcome in any state, despite ongoing claims from Trump and his supporters that the election was “stolen.”
