Josh Addo-Carr, once a symbol of hope for the Canterbury Bulldogs, now finds himself in a precarious situation after receiving a show cause notice from the club. The talented winger, who made waves during his time with Melbourne before joining the Bulldogs in 2022, played a crucial role in helping the team break its finals drought this season. However, recent events have cast a shadow over his future with the club.

A Rising Star Faces Setbacks

Addo-Carr’s troubles began just before the finals when he was embroiled in a drugs scandal. He voluntarily stood down from the Bulldogs’ elimination final after failing a roadside drug test. This incident has led to a fine and suspension, placing his career at Belmore in jeopardy.

Aaron Woods’ Concerns

Former Bulldogs forward Aaron Woods expressed his fears for Addo-Carr’s career during a recent appearance on Triple M. Woods believes the winger’s time with the Bulldogs is nearing its end, especially as he prepares to face the club’s board to discuss his actions.

“He’s got to front the board. If you look outside in at the moment, it doesn’t look too good for Josh,” Woods remarked. He noted that the club has a history of parting ways with players who receive show cause notices, often accompanied by a financial payout.

Woods pointed out the complexity of Addo-Carr’s situation, especially given the initial support he received from Phil Gould, the Bulldogs’ leadership. “It’s going to be a funny one how this plays out,” he said. “You can understand with what Gus Gould’s comments were when it first happened; the story had changed a little bit.”

The Future of Addo-Carr

As speculation grows about where Addo-Carr might end up, Woods mentioned that the St. George Illawarra Dragons are rumored to be a potential destination. However, he also highlighted that Shane Flanagan, the Dragons’ coach, currently prioritizes other players, with Clint Gutherson at the top of his list.

“Hopefully, this meeting with the Bulldogs for Josh Addo-Carr can sort out where he’s going to be playing in the future,” Woods concluded, emphasizing the urgency for both Addo-Carr and the club to find a resolution.
