An alarming incident has emerged in the world of boxing, as Australian fighter Jayson Tonkin lies in a coma following a tragic event in Pattaya, Thailand. The middleweight Muay Thai champion was discovered unconscious next to the body of his friend and fellow boxer, British fighter Joshua Goldstone.
Details of the Incident
On Tuesday, both Tonkin, 27, and Goldstone, 21, checked into a hotel in Pattaya with plans to depart the following day. Hotel staff reported hearing cries for help late Tuesday night, prompting them to alert local authorities. Upon their arrival, police found Goldstone deceased on the floor of the hotel room, while Tonkin was found in a state of panic and intoxication. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in a coma.
Authorities did not find any signs of a struggle at the scene but discovered cannabis, a white powder, and a small glass tube, leading to an ongoing investigation. Police are currently awaiting lab results to determine the substances involved. While Tonkin has not been charged, he is expected to be questioned by authorities once he recovers.
A Community Mourns
The boxing community is in shock following the news of Goldstone’s passing. Tributes have poured in on social media, with friends expressing their grief and condolences. One friend remarked, “Shocking news and so sad. You will be missed by many people,” while another said, “RIP Joshua. You will be in everyone’s memory.” Descriptions of Goldstone as a “sweet … fun man” highlight the impact he had on those around him.
