This album, Acoustic Sessions, showcases stripped-back versions of beloved tracks, creating a fresh and intimate listening experience for fans worldwide. The first single, an acoustic take on the classic “Whiskey In The Jar,” is an unvarnished presentation of the band’s early artistry. With the heavy rock production peeled back, the acoustic arrangement highlights the song’s lyrical and melodic roots, revealing the raw, captivating essence of the track that fans first fell in love with.

A Return to Roots: Eric Bell on Revisiting Thin Lizzy’s Early Sound

Eric Bell, recalling his early days with the band, spoke about re-recording parts from “Eire” — a song from their 1971 self-titled debut album. “When we first recorded it, I started on acoustic and layered it up with electric parts. Recreating that original acoustic feel in the studio was incredible, especially using Phil’s vocal tracks and Brian’s early drum takes,” Bell shared. Producer and mixer Richard Whittaker added that while most bands replace early acoustic demos with full-band recordings, THIN LIZZY’s new project is about returning to that raw foundation, capturing the essence of the band’s initial songwriting spirit.

Acoustic Sessions: Rediscovering Thin Lizzy’s Legacy

Acoustic Sessions features newly recorded versions of songs from the band’s 50th-anniversary editions of Vagabonds Of The Western World, Shades Of A Blue Orphanage, and their self-titled debut. The album will also include an acoustic rendition of “Whiskey In The Jar,” THIN LIZZY’s breakthrough track, marking the first time this hit has been presented in an acoustic format.

Drummer Brian Downey, the only band member to play in every lineup alongside Lynott, also contributed to reworking “Slow Blues,” a track known for its seamless blend of blues and jazz influences. Downey’s distinct, orchestral drumming is another powerful component in this album, bridging old and new while staying true to THIN LIZZY’s roots.

The Legacy of Whiskey In The Jar

Initially dating back to the 1700s as a traditional Irish folk song, “Whiskey In The Jar” was resurrected by Lynott during a rehearsal, where their manager encouraged the band to record it despite initial hesitation. The 1972 release became a hit, climbing to No. 6 on the U.K. charts. Over the years, it’s become a staple covered by legends like U2, METALLICA, and THE POGUES. This acoustic version captures the essence of the song’s early roots, bringing listeners a fresh way to experience the track that defined THIN LIZZY’s rise to fame.

Exclusive Editions and Bonus Tracks for Dedicated Fans

To celebrate this milestone, the album is being released in multiple formats. Alongside standard CD and limited-edition marble vinyl versions, an exclusive D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) edition will feature a bonus track, “Slow Blues G.M.” — a heartfelt tribute to the late Gary Moore.
