Aya Hijazi, the Egyptian American aid worker released from an Egyptian prison in 2017 with the help of the Trump administration, has sparked debate by expressing support for the radical group Hamas. Her social media posts applauding Hamas and criticizing those condemning the group’s recent terrorist attack on Israel have drawn attention.
In a post on November 7, just a month after the attack, Hijazi stated, I don’t condemn HAMAS and never will, I don’t condemn Palestinians who exhausted every peaceful way on earth to end their occupation and save their lives, I condemn anyone who asks the world to condemn HAMAS.
This public endorsement of Hamas is raising eyebrows, especially considering the Trump administration’s instrumental role in securing Hijazi’s release. While Trump emphasized his involvement, recent developments have left many questioning Hijazi’s apparent shift in allegiance.
Critics highlight the timing and content of her statements, with some questioning her gratitude toward the country that played a pivotal role in securing her freedom. Hussain Abdul-Hussain, a research fellow, expressed concern, stating, There is no amount of ingratitude in the world that can beat Hijazi’s ungratefulness to her country that came to her rescue.
Hijazi’s social media accounts are now filled with posts supporting Hamas and Palestinians while condemning Israel. Her endorsement of Joe Biden during the 2020 election, followed by labeling him Genocide Joe, adds another layer to the controversy.
Cynthia Farahat, author of The Secret Apparatus: The Muslim Brotherhood’s Industry of Death, pointed out Hijazi’s positive comments featured on the Muslim Brotherhood’s official website, suggesting a connection between her stance and support for the organization.
Despite her gratitude for being freed by the United States, the controversy surrounding her recent statements reignites debates about the complexities of international diplomacy, personal affiliations, and the consequences of political gestures.
As of now, there has been no response from the Trump campaign when Fox News Digital reached out for comment.
