Of all the benefits of free speech on social media, two stand out: the power to shed light on hidden truths and the ability to expose true evil in plain sight. This week, the latter was on full display when a left-leaning user on X (formerly Twitter) posted a disturbing sentiment about President Donald Trump’s second, non-consecutive inauguration.
The user, going by the handle @daintysloth, didn’t mince words when they wrote, “I’m gonna try to stay vague here but I’m disappointed someone didn’t at least make an attempt today,” following Monday’s indoor inauguration ceremony. The chilling statement garnered over 100,000 “likes” by Tuesday morning, igniting a firestorm of criticism.

The decision to hold the ceremony indoors was reportedly influenced by security concerns, a move that now appears justified in light of this post. The message not only failed to be “vague,” as claimed, but was met with disturbing agreement from several commenters, showcasing a deeply troubling mindset among certain social media users.

This isn’t the first time such sentiments have surfaced. During Trump’s campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, there was similar outrage when some expressed disappointment that an attempted attack merely grazed the president’s ear instead of causing more harm.
Amid this disturbing trend, many are calling for immediate action to investigate such dangerous rhetoric. The hope is that ongoing efforts to clean up the FBI and DOJ from political agendas could pave the way for addressing threats from those who openly condone violence.
