The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert for frozen, fully cooked Wegmans Food Markets breaded chicken breast nuggets due to possible contamination with bone fragments. Consumers are now being urged to check their freezers and dispose of any affected products immediately.
The specific product in question is the 46-oz. package of “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat.” The contaminated items bear a “best if used by” date of August 26, 2025, printed on the back of the packaging, along with the code “P-33944” inside the USDA inspection seal. According to FSIS, these nuggets were produced on August 26, 2024.
Where Was the Product Sold?
The affected chicken nuggets were distributed across multiple states, reaching Wegmans locations in Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. While a formal recall has not been issued, FSIS warns that some consumers may still have the product in their freezers.

Consumer Complaints Spark Investigation
The alert was issued following multiple complaints from consumers who found bone fragments in the nuggets. Fortunately, there have been no confirmed injuries linked to the contaminated product. However, FSIS emphasizes that consuming these products poses a potential health risk.
What Should Consumers Do?
Authorities are urging consumers to check their freezers immediately. “FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ freezers,” the agency stated. “Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it. This product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”
For further details and updates, consumers can contact Wegmans customer service or visit the FSIS website for more information on food safety alerts.
