Despite the Trump family’s financial capacity to employ multiple nannies, Melania and Donald Trump actively minimized external assistance for Barron, highlighting the importance of personal involvement in parenting. Melania explained to PEOPLE, “I like to be hands-on. I think it’s very important,” while Donald Trump emphasized, “We keep it [outside help] down to a minimum. If you have too much help, you don’t get to know your children.”
Melania reinforced this stance in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, asserting her direct involvement in Barron’s upbringing. “I don’t have a nanny. I have a chef, and I have my assistant, and that’s it. I do it myself,” she declared. Despite her other commitments, Melania prioritized her role as a mother, considering it her “first job.” In an interview with Parenting, she detailed her daily routine, emphasizing her active participation in every aspect of Barron’s day, from cooking his breakfast to spending afternoons together.
While Melania had previously mentioned hiring a nanny named Clare Hollywood when Barron was a newborn, she expressed a clear preference for hands-on parenting. “We’re spending more time together. If [an event] is not important, I prefer to give the baby a bath and put him in bed,” she explained.
Since leaving the White House, Melania Trump has intentionally stayed out of the public eye, avoiding major events, including her husband’s campaign trail and court hearings. Sources informed the Irish Times, later echoed in 1945 magazine, that Melania’s primary concern is Barron’s future. Maintaining a relatively private life behind the gates of her three homes, Melania focuses on her son’s college search as her most ardent pursuit.
