Actress Alicia Silverstone, best known for her iconic role in Clueless, recently caused a stir on social media when she posted a TikTok video of herself eating a mysterious fruit that many believed to be toxic. The video, shared with her 4 million followers, showed Silverstone biting into a small orange-colored fruit she found on a street in England.
The actress seemed puzzled by the fruit, asking her fans for help in identifying it. “Ok, I discovered something that I can’t figure out what it is, and I need your help,” she said in the video. “I just bit into it because it was on the street, and we were discussing whether this was a tomato or not. It’s definitely not.” Silverstone further described the fruit’s unusual characteristics, noting that it resembled a pepper when opened.
Concerned followers quickly flooded the comments with warnings, suggesting that the fruit might be a Jerusalem cherry, which is known to be poisonous. According to the Queensland Poisons Information Centre, consuming a Jerusalem cherry can lead to serious symptoms such as fever, vomiting, stomach pain, and even death.
The following day, Silverstone took to Instagram to reassure her fans. In a light-hearted post, she wrote, “Alive and well! Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow 😉😛.” Her update was met with an outpouring of relief from fans, who left comments like, “Glad you’re ok” and “WHEW!!! I was stressin’!!! Glad you’re alive and well!”
This incident highlights the importance of being cautious about unfamiliar fruits, especially those found in the wild. While Silverstone’s curious taste test could have ended disastrously, her quick update thankfully put everyone at ease.
