Recent remarks that have garnered attention, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) has voiced apprehensions regarding supporters of former President Donald Trump, labeling them as potential threats to national security.
During an interview with MSNBC, Waters characterized these individuals as “domestic terrorists” and expressed worries about the possibility of them “preparing a civil war against us.”
“I am going to spend some time with the criminal justice system, asking them, tell us what’s going on with the domestic terrorists,” Waters stated during the interview. She raised questions about the safety of citizens in light of divisive rhetoric and emphasized the need for vigilance.
Waters, known for her outspoken nature, has a history of making controversial statements on political matters. Previously, she urged BLM protesters to increase their level of confrontation with Republicans and advised Democrats to publicly confront members of the Trump administration.
Expressing concern about potential violence from “right-wing” groups if Trump is not re-elected in 2024, Waters hinted at her intention to reach out to the Department of Justice for further information.
Alongside labeling Trump supporters as “domestic terrorists,” Waters did not shy away from criticizing the former president himself, branding him a “pure racist” and asserting a perceived “anti-white feeling” in the country.
“We need to know now, given that he’s telling us that there’s going to be violence if he loses. We need to know what his plan is and how we’re going to be protected,” Waters added in the interview.
While Waters’ remarks have sparked debate, with some supporting her concerns and others criticizing her for generalizing a large group of people based on their political affiliations, it is evident that she will continue to be a prominent and controversial figure in discussions surrounding domestic politics and social issues.
