Republican presidential candidate Larry Elder announced the suspension of his campaign on Thursday evening. Elder, a conservative talk radio host and former recall candidate for California Governor, revealed that he had made the decision to withdraw from the race and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
Elder expressed his gratitude for the support he received from his followers, acknowledging their enthusiasm and grassroots efforts. He stated that after careful evaluation of his campaign’s progress and the current state of the race, he felt compelled to suspend his efforts.
“Throughout my campaign, I have highlighted critical issues facing our nation, including the crisis of fatherlessness, the misconception of systemic racism, the necessity for a constitutional amendment to limit federal spending as a percentage of GDP, and the imperative to remove Soros-backed District Attorneys who fail to uphold the law,” Elder stated in his announcement.
He continued, emphasizing the impact of the breakdown of family structures on society, linking it to the surge in crime observed in America. “I hope that my campaign has shed light on these pressing issues, sparking essential conversations on potential solutions,” he added.
Elder, who entered the presidential race in April, previously gained attention when he threatened legal action against the Republican National Committee (RNC) in August. He accused the RNC of silencing his voice by excluding him from the first GOP debate, despite failing to meet the required thresholds for individual donors and polling.
Despite his efforts, Elder’s support remained modest, fluctuating between 0-1% according to the latest polls. In his withdrawal statement, Elder called on fellow Republicans to unite behind Donald Trump, emphasizing the need to defeat President Joe Biden and combat alleged election interference and progressive policies.
“Now that I am exiting the race, I am proud to announce my endorsement of Donald Trump for President of the United States,” Elder declared. “We must unite behind Donald Trump to beat Joe Biden and fight back against Biden’s unprecedented election interference and the left’s destruction of America.”
Elder concluded his announcement by expressing his appreciation for his supporters, volunteers, and donors, acknowledging their contributions to his campaign. The unexpected endorsement by Elder adds an intriguing twist to the evolving landscape of the Republican presidential race.
