In a spirited rally on Saturday night, former President Donald Trump took center stage and unleashed a Monty Python-inspired performance, mocking his Republican rival, Ron DeSantis, for allegedly wearing lifts in his cowboy boots. The crowd at Claremont, New Hampshire, roared with laughter as Trump playfully imitated DeSantis’s walk and speculated on the height-boosting footwear.
During the rally, Trump addressed the speculation for the first time, suggesting that at the recent third Republican primary debate, he thought DeSantis appeared to be “wearing ice skates.” The former president, standing at 6 feet 2 inches, claimed he wasn’t wearing lifts himself, cheekily stating, “I don’t have six-inch heels.” He then mimicked DeSantis’s walk, asserting that his cowboy boots concealed a hidden secret.
“He’s walking off stage like he’s trying to balance himself. I thought he was wearing ice skates. What difference does that make?” Trump questioned, leaving the podium while hilariously flailing his arms, reminiscent of Monty Python’s Ministry of Silly Walks.
The speculation around DeSantis’s height was fueled by his posture when wearing cowboy boots, particularly in recent weeks. Bootmakers Zephan Parker and Graham Ebner from Texas chimed in, asserting that DeSantis is indeed wearing lifts, based on the instep, toe spring, and the ball of his foot’s position.
However, DeSantis’s campaign vehemently denied the allegations. The Florida governor, in a previous statement, insisted that his cowboy boots were “just standard, off-the-rack Lucchese boots.”
Beyond the light-hearted banter, Trump seized the opportunity to address more serious matters. In his Veterans Day address, he criticized the Left, pledging to “root out” what he called “radical Left thugs” within the country. He emphasized the perceived threat from within, accusing President Joe Biden and Democrats of causing inflation, rigging elections, and pushing the nation toward a potential third world war.
During the rally, Trump also commended China for its stringent approach to drug-related issues. He praised President Xi Jinping, stating, “President Xi in China controls 1.4 billion people with an iron hand, no drug problems.” Trump advocated for implementing a “meaningful death penalty” for drug dealers to combat the opioid crisis, reaffirming his controversial stance despite past criticisms.
In a lighter moment, Trump, known for his flair for showmanship, expressed doubt that any Hollywood actor could accurately portray the strength and presence of President Xi Jinping. “There’s nobody in Hollywood that can play the role of President Xi – the look, the strength, the voice,” he mused, adding another layer of entertainment to the evening.
