Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing counterattack against actor Robert De Niro on Sunday, decrying him as a “foul and disgusting” individual who has severely tarnished his acting prowess and overall reputation. Trump’s vehement response, reported by The Messenger on Monday, December 4, 2023, follows De Niro’s recent verbal assault at the Gotham Awards where he accused Trump of over 30,000 lies during his presidency.
The delayed reaction from Trump emerged on Truth Social, his newly launched social media platform aimed at challenging what he deems the “tyranny of Big Tech.” In his online diatribe, Trump asserted, “Robert De Niro, whose acting talents have greatly diminished, with his reputation now shot, must even use a teleprompter for his foul and disgusting language, so disrespectful to our Country.”
The former president continued his tirade, labeling De Niro a “washed-up has-been” who should redirect his focus from “spewing hatred and lies” about Trump and his administration. Accusing De Niro of being a “loser” and a “hypocrite” supporting a “radical left agenda” detrimental to the nation, Trump’s comments reflect the escalating feud between the two public figures.
De Niro’s scathing remarks about Trump were delivered during his presentation of the film “Killers of the Flower Moon” at the Gotham Awards. Allegedly, the actor’s planned comments on Trump were removed from the teleprompter at the last minute by Apple employees, the film’s producer, according to Variety. Unfazed, De Niro proceeded to deliver his thoughts from his phone.
“Lying has become just another tool in the charlatan’s arsenal,” De Niro declared. “The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office.” Accusing Trump of falsehoods on various critical issues, De Niro labeled him a “con artist” posing a danger to democracy.
De Niro’s animosity towards Trump dates back to 2016 when the actor expressed strong disapproval of the then-Republican candidate. The actor has employed various derogatory terms to describe Trump, including “punk,” “dog,” “pig,” “mutt,” “bozo,” and “national disaster.” He even expressed a desire to physically confront Trump, labeling him “beyond a horrible person.”
Trump’s response to De Niro aligns with his past pattern of hitting back at celebrities critical of him. The former president has engaged in public feuds with figures such as Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, Rosie O’Donnell, and Bette Midler, frequently dismissing them as “overrated,” “unfunny,” “nasty,” “dumb,” and “failing.” The latest clash adds another chapter to the ongoing saga of Trump’s confrontations with those in the public eye who challenge him.
