Late-night show host Seth Meyers took a jab at Donald Trump for allegedly attempting to sway a former Mar-a-Lago staff member with golf tournament tickets in exchange for cooperation regarding classified document mishandling. As reported by OK Magazine on December 13, 2023, Meyers playfully mocked Trump’s unconventional bribery tactics during his monologue on December 12.
Reports suggest that Trump and his associates approached the ex-employee after an FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, offering legal representation, golf tickets, and potential reemployment in return for cooperation. Meyers humorously remarked that Trump was lazy enough to bribe a witness with stuff he just had lying around.
The former SNL cast member imitated Trump’s voice, jokingly saying, We need to silence this person. Send some golf tickets over, and, um, let’s see, Rudy? Trump openly admitted to displaying classified documents, and CNN reported potential witnesses at his upcoming trial in Florida, including Mar-a-Lago staff and contract workers.
Among those listed were a plumber, a maid, a chauffeur, and a woodworker. Trump criticized a CNN report on Truth Social, accusing them of spreading fake news, emphasizing that the boxes and papers seen at Mar-a-Lago were openly brought from the White House, as per his right under the Presidential Records Act.
Despite facing 37 charges related to documents, including Espionage Act violations, and being arrested and arraigned on June 8, Trump was released on bond a few days later.
