Highway 10 in Weyauwega, Wisconsin, claiming the lives of four siblings: Daniel E. Gonzalez, 25, Fabian A. Gonzalez, 23, Lilian P. Gonzalez, 14, and Daniela E. Gonzalez, 9. The siblings, returning from a family gathering, fell victim to a collision with a drunk driver, identified as 47-year-old Scott Charles Farmer from Neenah.
According to a report by Law and Crime on December 21, 2023, Farmer’s level of intoxication was severe, to the extent that he was oblivious to the current month, as noted by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office. Farmer’s pickup truck, which crashed into the Gonzalez siblings’ SUV, revealed an open bottle of vodka near his leg, and his person emitted a strong smell of alcohol.
Tragically, Daniel, Fabian, Lilian, and Daniela lost their lives at the scene, while Farmer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.
In the aftermath of the incident, a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime disclosed Farmer’s alarming state during the encounter with law enforcement. Described as having bloodshot and glassy eyes, droopy eyelids, slow and slurred speech, and impaired facial movements, Farmer displayed clear signs of intoxication caused by alcohol consumption.
Facing four counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and one count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, Farmer’s actions have left a profound impact on the Gonzalez family and the Weyauwega community.
The Gonzalez siblings, originally from Saraguro, Ecuador, were deeply rooted in their Indigenous community. Daniel and Fabian, employed as milk technicians at a local dairy farm, shared a passion for playing traditional Andean music. Lilian and Daniela, enthusiastic students, cherished their education and visits to their homeland.
In an emotional statement to Fox 11, Kurt Schilling, the stepfather of the Gonzalez siblings, expressed the irreparable damage caused by Farmer, urging responsibility and consideration for others when consuming substances.
To assist the grieving family with funeral and medical expenses, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated by Luis Gonzalez-Quizhpe, a cousin of the victims. He conveyed gratitude for the outpouring support from the community and emphasized the immense loss suffered by the family.
As the Weyauwega community mourns the tragic loss of these young lives, the incident serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving and the need for increased awareness and responsibility.
