The announcement of Vance, Ohio’s junior senator, as Trump’s 2024 vice presidential nominee has highlighted a significant shift to the far-right within the Republican ticket.
Vance, known for his staunchly conservative stance, has drawn considerable controversy for his positions on abortion, marriage, and other social issues. His strong anti-abortion views have been a focal point of criticism. He campaigned on a platform advocating for a complete ban on abortion and has been vocal about his opposition to exceptions for cases of rape and incest, calling them “inconvenient.”
Following the Supreme Court’s 2023 decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Vance celebrated the ruling as a milestone for the pro-life movement, signaling his readiness to support federal measures restricting abortion rights.
