Former White House Strategist Steve Bannon Criticizes Ex-House Speaker Paul Ryan
Paul Ryan, then-House Speaker, greets President Donald Trump at a dinner in March 2018, when their relationship was still publicly amiable.
A recent segment on War Room featured Steve Bannon’s scathing criticism of former House Speaker Paul Ryan. According to a report by The Post Millennial on June 20, 2024, Bannon accused Ryan of cowardice and lacking character, particularly during critical moments in 2016 and 2018.
“Show me where the guy Paul Ryan had any character when it mattered,” Bannon challenged. “Every time there’s a crisis, he runs. And you’re going to have him sit there and lecture us?”
Bannon’s remarks followed an interview Paul Ryan gave on Fox News, where he criticized former President Donald Trump, accusing him of putting himself above the Constitution and labeling him unfit for office. Ryan also blamed Trump for costing the GOP election wins, particularly Senate seats and control of the House.

In response, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to fire back at Ryan and Fox News. “Nobody can ever trust Fox News, and I am one of them, with the weak and ineffective RINO, Paul Ryan, on its Board of Directors,” Trump wrote. “He’s a total lightweight, a failed and pathetic Speaker of the House, and a very disloyal person.”
Trump called for Fox News to remove Ryan from its Board of Directors, further escalating the feud between the former president and the former Speaker of the House. Bannon’s comments added more fuel to the fire, criticizing Ryan for not taking significant stands during his political career and accusing him of abandoning the GOP in crucial moments.
This ongoing feud highlights the growing divide within the Republican party. Trump loyalists like Bannon and the former president himself clash with more traditional members like Ryan. The rift has led to tense exchanges and pointed criticisms as each side vies for control and influence within the party.
As the 2024 elections approach, the power struggle within the GOP shows no signs of abating. Trump continues to rally his base and criticize those he sees as disloyal. Figures like Bannon call out perceived weaknesses and failures in the party’s leadership, making the future of the Republican party uncertain.
Whether Ryan will respond to Bannon’s attacks or if Fox News will take action in light of Trump’s demands remains to be seen. The ongoing tensions and conflicts within the GOP are likely to persist, as different factions vie for control and influence in the post-Trump era. The party’s evolution and identity will be shaped by these internal struggles, influencing the political landscape in the years to come.
