Biden administration is reportedly preparing to unveil an additional $400 million in military aid for Ukraine, as revealed in a report by The Post Millennial on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Sources familiar with the matter, as reported by the Associated Press, indicate that this allocation marks the third round of assistance provided to Ukraine by the Biden administration since the enactment of a $95 billion foreign aid bill into law.
The aid package, set to be announced through presidential drawdown authority, encompasses a comprehensive array of military equipment. This includes High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, artillery, air defense systems, anti-tank munitions, armored vehicles, and other critical gear.
However, details about whether the package will include a new wave of Army Tactical Missile System long-range ballistic missiles (ATACMS) have not been disclosed in the official release.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, amidst the challenging situation on the eastern front, emphasized the urgent need for increased weapons supply to bolster Ukrainian forces. He stated, “With an increase in the supply of weapons, we will be able to stop them in the east. As of now, they seized the initiative there.”
The decision to allocate an additional $400 million follows the initial $1 billion sent through drawdown authority and subsequent approval of $6 billion in long-term contracts with defense industry companies for future weapon provisions.
Despite some opposition, both public and congressional support has been evident, culminating in the passing of the bipartisan foreign aid bill.
The news of the impending military aid package for Ukraine has sparked debates and discussions, highlighting the importance of international support amidst escalating tensions in the region.
As the Biden administration gears up to announce this substantial aid package, global attention remains focused on finding a resolution to the ongoing crisis, recognizing the critical role of international solidarity in supporting Ukraine’s defense efforts.
