ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds is currently recovering after being shot twice following an incident in Denver last week. The shooting occurred shortly after Reynolds left a strip club, leaving him with injuries that have drawn attention from both the team and law enforcement.
According to the Broncos, Reynolds was a victim of a shooting on Friday, October 18. The team released a statement saying, “Josh Reynolds was a victim of a shooting and received treatment for minor injuries. Out of respect for the legal process, we will defer further comment on this matter to the authorities.”
The Denver police have arrested two suspects, identified as 35-year-old Luis Mendoza and 42-year-old Burr Charlesworth, in connection with the shooting. They are facing serious charges, including attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault. Authorities are still investigating the case and are working to identify any additional suspects, which has led to the sealing of arrest reports to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Local news station NBC affiliate KUSA-TV reported that Reynolds was shot once in his left arm and once in the back of his head. The incident took place around 3 a.m. along Interstate 25, just south of downtown Denver. Reports suggest that Reynolds and another man were followed after leaving the strip club known as Shotgun Willies.
At the time of the shooting, Reynolds was already on injured reserve due to a broken finger and did not accompany the Broncos for their Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints on October 17. This incident unfolded just hours after the Broncos secured a victory against the Saints.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Reynolds has been seen working out on a side field during Broncos’ practices this week. However, players on injured reserve are not permitted to speak with the media, limiting public updates on his condition.
Reynolds, in his ninth season in the NFL and first with the Broncos, signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the team last offseason. He has played in five games this season, making one start and recording 12 receptions for 183 yards and one touchdown. Before joining the Broncos, Reynolds spent three seasons with the Detroit Lions and has also played for the Tennessee Titans and the Los Angeles Rams, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.
