In a fiery appearance on CNN’s AC360, Charlamagne tha God delivered a blistering critique of the network’s handling of Donald Trump’s rhetoric, calling it a failure to confront the seriousness of his statements since 2016. Known for his candid views, the podcaster and radio host highlighted the apparent double standards in media coverage, particularly when comparing Trump’s actions to those of Kamala Harris.
Charlamagne’s remarks came during an interview with Anderson Cooper, where he responded to Trump’s planned appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. He asserted, “I think that she should keep calling Donald Trump a fascist.” His argument underscored the urgency of examining Trump’s incendiary rhetoric, particularly his comments about mass deportation and plans to “terminate the constitution” to overturn election results.
Aiming to shed light on Trump’s dangerous language, Charlamagne stated, “I don’t know why we’re even thinking about electing somebody who’s talking about putting people in camps.” He contrasted the outrage directed toward figures like Colin Kaepernick for peaceful protests with the minimal concern for Trump’s more alarming threats. “A guy can say he wants to terminate the constitution to overthrow the results of an election and nobody cares?” he asked, emphasizing the inconsistency in public outrage.
As Cooper attempted to steer the conversation back to Trump’s potential impact on the upcoming election, Charlamagne maintained focus on the gravity of Trump’s fascist tendencies. “That rhetoric doesn’t scare people?” he questioned, referencing Trump’s history of targeting political opponents and his admiration for authoritarian figures.
Charlamagne’s critical assessment extended to CNN itself, claiming the network has failed to engage in honest conversations about Trump’s fascist inclinations. “Nobody has had honest conversations about Donald Trump since 2016,” he asserted, pointing out that discussions about Trump often lack the seriousness they warrant. Cooper responded, defending CNN’s coverage but faced pushback from Charlamagne, who stated, “I feel like I heard more on this network about ‘Is Kamala Harris Black?’ than I do about Donald Trump being a fascist.”
The conversation reflected broader concerns about the media’s role in shaping public perception of political figures. Following a recent town hall with Harris, CNN host Jake Tapper remarked on how the media treats Harris like any other politician, contrasting this with Trump’s more extreme rhetoric. He noted that Trump has positioned liberals as the “enemy within” while facing little scrutiny compared to Harris.
