The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly finalizing a trade to acquire wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move comes as the Chiefs aim to bolster their receiving corps following injuries to key players.
As part of the deal, the Titans will receive a 2025 fifth-round draft pick. This pick could turn into a fourth-round selection if the Chiefs reach the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays at least 60% of the snaps. Additionally, Tennessee is expected to cover $2.5 million of Hopkins’ salary, easing the financial impact for Kansas City.
Hopkins is set to arrive in Kansas City on Wednesday, with hopes that he will be ready to take the field for their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, have been active in the receiver market due to significant injuries to their current roster. Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice are both out for the season, while JuJu Smith-Schuster is dealing with a hamstring issue. This leaves rookie Xavier Worthy as the leading option in a struggling wide receiver lineup.
At 32 years old, Hopkins joins the Chiefs after a strong performance last season, where he caught 75 passes for 1,057 yards and scored seven touchdowns. Although his current season stats are lower—15 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown over six games—his decline can likely be attributed to an August knee injury and the inconsistent play from Titans quarterback Will Levis.
With a record of 1-5, the Titans appear to be in “seller mode,” looking to offload assets, while the undefeated Chiefs are making a bold move on the trade market as they pursue a third consecutive Super Bowl title.
This acquisition not only enhances the Chiefs’ offense but also reflects their commitment to remain competitive at the highest level in the NFL.
