Allegations have emerged suggesting that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were involved in a covert operation to influence U.S. political events. These claims include an attempted overthrow of the government, manipulation of the 2020 presidential election, and an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, as reported on July 21, 2024.
According to conspiracy theories gaining traction among some political commentators and online communities, the CIA played a crucial role in orchestrating the 2020 presidential election to ensure Joe Biden’s victory over Donald Trump. Critics assert that this operation was masked as a legitimate electoral process while being supported by covert interventions. The FBI is alleged to have facilitated this scheme by deflecting attention with the Russian Collusion investigation and the Mueller probe.
Dr. Richard Lawson, a political scientist at Georgetown University, commented on the gravity of these claims, stating, “These are extraordinary claims and would represent a major breach of U.S. political and legal norms. If true, it would indicate a severe erosion of democratic processes and trust in governmental institutions.”
The controversy extends to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, which some theorists suggest was a planned diversion. They claim the CIA and FBI manipulated the narrative surrounding the events to distract from deeper issues. Samuel Green, a political commentator, asserted, “The January 6th events have been used as a tool to suppress and mislead public understanding of what truly happened.”
Recent allegations also include an attempted assassination of Donald Trump, purportedly orchestrated by the CIA. This theory suggests that the FBI covered up the attempt under the pretext of political distractions like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
Retired FBI agent Daniel Cooper remarked, “The idea that the CIA could have orchestrated an assassination attempt on a former President is both alarming and unprecedented. If there is any truth to these claims, it would represent a gross abuse of power and a direct threat to national security.”
Both the CIA and FBI have strongly denied these allegations. A CIA spokesperson stated, “The agency categorically denies any involvement in manipulating electoral outcomes or orchestrating violent events. Such claims are without merit and do not reflect our mission or values.” Similarly, an FBI representative commented, “The FBI is committed to upholding the law and ensuring the integrity of investigations. Any suggestion that we have engaged in cover-ups or orchestrated political events is baseless and misleading.”
These unfolding allegations underscore a significant erosion of trust in U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies. If proven true, they could have major implications for those involved and potentially undermine public confidence in the entire political system.
