All Elite Wrestling (AEW) appears to be gearing up for a new Saturday night show, possibly to be titled “AEW Collision,” slated for a summer debut. Speculation has been swirling about the return of CM Punk to the wrestling world, and there’s buzz that he might bring along WWE star Drew McIntyre for this exciting venture.
In March, Andrew Zarian, known for the Mat Men Podcast, had already hinted at AEW’s plans for a Saturday night wrestling show starting this summer. It has now come to light that AEW made the prudent move to trademark the show’s title, “Collision,” a couple of months back.
Discussing these developments on a recent episode of Mat Men, Zarian dropped some fresh details. On Friday night, Matt Black from WrestleZone reported that “Collision” would air on Saturday nights from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. Zarian confirmed these time details and took it a step further, suggesting that TNT is the likely broadcasting home for the show, rather than TBS.
The reports of CM Punk returning as the top star for the Saturday night show also appear to hold water, according to Zarian. There’s even a scheduled meeting between Punk, Tony Khan, Chris Jericho, FTR, and others to iron out the details, though, as with any plans, they remain subject to change.
Saturday’s news from Zarian also indicated that not only will AEW be gracing Chicago’s Wintrust Arena on June 21st for Dynamite (tickets on sale next week), but the inaugural episode of “Collision” will also take place in the Windy City. The expected date for this is Saturday, June 17th, likely to be held at Wintrust Arena.
Now, on to the topic of Drew McIntyre. Concerns have arisen about the WWE star’s future, especially as he recently wiped his Twitter account clean. Reports last month hinted at McIntyre’s WWE contract expiring this year, with no new deal in sight. His health issues have kept him out of the ring since WrestleMania 39. On Twitter, fans observed McIntyre’s profile blackout, removal of his picture and timeline banner, and a distinct lack of references to WWE employment.
As for Punk’s involvement, he has expressed hopes of working with The Elite despite previous clashes, but it’s unclear if the two sides have engaged in discussions. With the inclusion of FTR and Chris Jericho in the reported meeting, they might also have roles to play in this new wrestling extravaganza.
The wrestling world is eagerly awaiting AEW’s next moves. Wrestling enthusiasts will have to stay tuned for further developments in this exciting story.
