Eagle Pass, Texas – The mayor of Eagle Pass, a Democrat, has voiced his concerns about the surging numbers of illegal border crossings and blames the Biden administration for what he calls an “abandonment” of his border town.
Mayor Rolando Salinas of Eagle Pass recently declared a state of emergency as over 5,000 illegal immigrants crossed into his city from Mexico in just five days. When asked if he holds President Biden accountable for the crisis, Mayor Salinas did not hesitate.
“To be honest with you, I believe 100 percent that he bears some responsibility for this crisis,” Salinas expressed during an interview with CNN. “I haven’t heard from anybody in the administration. The president hasn’t issued a statement, neither has the vice president. No one has reached out to me or anyone on our city staff to discuss their plan of action.”
Mayor Salinas continued, “It’s been nothing. We feel abandoned here on the border. We’re asking for help, and this is unacceptable.”
Mayor Salinas appealed to the Biden Administration to enforce existing immigration laws and emphasized that unrestricted illegal immigration is unfair to those who follow legal procedures.
“Please, just enforce the laws that are already in place. We’re a nation of laws, and that’s all I’m asking for. It shouldn’t be like this,” Salinas stated. “If you want to come here, that’s fine – but do it legally. Many people have done it the right way in the past. It takes a lot of time and money, but it’s the fair way.”
“It’s not fair to those who have gone through the legal process when you have thousands of people coming in with no consequences,” he added. “It’s just not fair.”
