Elon Musk’s America PAC has halted its controversial million-dollar giveaways to voters in swing states, potentially in response to a warning from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). This decision comes shortly after Musk formally endorsed Donald Trump in his bid for a second term as president.

Since the inception of America PAC, Musk has actively worked to support Trump’s campaign, including announcing a plan to distribute $1 million to registered voters in critical battleground states. The PAC had been announcing winners daily, fueling excitement among potential recipients. However, on Wednesday, no winner was declared, raising eyebrows among observers.

CNN’s Marshall Cohen reported that the sudden pause in the giveaways coincided with the DOJ’s warning regarding possible legal violations. The department highlighted that it is illegal to provide financial incentives for voter registration or participation. According to federal law, offering cash prizes to encourage voter registration can lead to severe penalties, including up to five years in prison.

Cohen noted that Musk’s team has not provided any public explanation for the halt in the sweepstakes. Speculation surrounding the situation has intensified. Some believe the PAC may be re-evaluating its strategy to ensure compliance with the law. Others suggest it might simply be an oversight or that they could announce multiple winners at once to catch up on the missed days.

As the political landscape continues to shift, Musk’s America PAC finds itself under scrutiny, not just for its ambitious plans to influence the election, but also for navigating the complexities of election law. The DOJ’s intervention underscores the importance of adhering to legal guidelines, particularly in a climate where electoral integrity is paramount.
