Former White House lawyer Ty Cobb is sounding the alarm, saying ex-President Donald Trump might end up behind bars if he keeps up his strong words against the special counsel probing his alleged election interference and obstruction of justice. Cobb, who was Trump’s attorney from July 2017 to May 2018, told CNN’s Erin Burnett that the Department of Justice has a solid case against Trump.
According to Cobb, Trump’s fiery statements about the court staff and witnesses involved in the probe violate the partial gag order imposed by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan. This order, reinstated recently, bars Trump from making public statements that could prejudice the jury or hinder justice administration.
Cobb claims Trump’s refusal to hand over classified documents requested by the DOJ, coupled with false affidavits, could be his downfall. Investigators found the documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida after Trump claimed not to possess any. Cobb believes the DOJ just needs to prove Trump moved the documents during critical times.
That’s all they really have to do, and I think he will go to jail for that, said Cobb.

Trump denies any wrongdoing, arguing his right to take documents under the Presidential Records Act. He labels special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation a witch hunt and accuses him of bias. Cobb, however, vouches for Smith’s professionalism and unbiased approach, stating he’s simply doing his job.
This classified documents case isn’t Trump’s only legal woe. Smith is investigating his role in the Capitol insurrection and attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. Trump faces civil lawsuits from New York AG Letitia James for fraud and tax evasion and from columnist E. Jean Carroll for sexual assault allegations.
