A recent report by Raw Story on November 14, 2023, Sidney Powell, once a lawyer for Donald Trump, spilled the details on why the former president stuck with her advice during the 2020 election controversies.
Powell, who recently pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor counts of election interference in Georgia, explained that Trump trusted her because she was giving it to him straight when everyone else was telling him to concede.
Known for pushing wild conspiracy theories involving communists, globalists, and even voting machines, Powell faced numerous setbacks as her lawsuits were dismissed by federal judges and she got hit with defamation lawsuits from voting machine companies.
Despite the lack of evidence, Powell remained in Trump’s inner circle, even after his legal team distanced themselves. She continued to meet with Trump and offer advice on election matters.
In a recorded interview with Georgia prosecutors, Powell revealed that Trump chose to listen to her over other advisers who wanted him to accept reality because, as she puts it, He trusted me because everybody else was telling him to pack up and go. And I was telling him the truth.
This admission contradicts Trump’s recent claim that Powell was
never his attorney. Trump made this statement on his social media platform Truth Social, just three days after Powell agreed to cooperate with prosecutors and testify against her co-defendants in the Georgia case, possibly including Trump himself.
Powell, along with Trump and 18 others, was indicted in August 2023 for allegedly conspiring to subvert the election outcome in Georgia and other states. Despite facing serious charges, Powell’s plea deal resulted in her pleading guilty to lesser charges, receiving probation, a fine, and restitution.
Her cooperation with the investigation could have significant implications for the Georgia case, shedding light on the inner workings of Trump’s campaign and the motivations behind his actions. Powell’s credibility and motives are also under scrutiny, raising questions about whether she truly believed in the conspiracy theories or exploited them for personal gain.
Once a respected lawyer, Powell’s role in the 2020 election saga has been widely criticized. Her plea deal marks a dramatic turn of events, leaving her fate uncertain, along with that of Trump and others involved in the ongoing investigation and trial.
