Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is expected to participate in a local GOP event in Florida commemorating the third anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The event, co-hosted by the Indian River County GOP and the Vero Beach chapter of Conservative Watch USA, is promoted as honoring World War II veterans. However, it has raised concerns due to the participation of Greene alongside Derrick Evans, a former West Virginia state lawmaker convicted for his role in the Capitol breach, and Ann Vandersteel, a far-right media personality associated with conspiracy theories.
While the event is framed as recognizing veterans, it has been described as a Jan. 6 rally by Conservative Watch USA President Annie Marie Delgado, who also likened those charged in connection with the Capitol breach to “prisoners of war” in the country’s purported spiritual war.
Greene’s attendance at the event aligns with her previous actions and support for individuals charged in connection with the Capitol attack. She had collaborated with then-President Trump in December 2020 to plan strategies aimed at contesting the certification of the electoral vote on January 6.
Despite attempts to contact Greene for confirmation, her presence at the event underscores her alignment with controversial narratives and individuals associated with the January 6 incident. The event, despite its stated purpose of honoring veterans, reflects the ongoing division and divergent interpretations surrounding the events of January 6, with Greene’s involvement emphasizing her adherence to these controversial perspectives.
