Deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call but entered the wrong unit, leading to Fortson’s tragic shooting. Armed with a legally owned gun and on a Facetime call with a friend, Fortson asked for identification but received no response before deputies fatally shot him six times.
