Remarkable display of resilience and dedication, Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has shared that she competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics while seven months pregnant. The 26-year-old athlete reached the final 16 in the women’s sabre individual competition, achieving this feat while expecting her first child with her husband, Ibrahim Ihab.
Hafez took to Instagram to express her emotions and gratitude, posting photos from the event. She revealed, “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!” Her heartfelt message continued, emphasizing the challenges she faced both physically and emotionally during the competition.
“The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” Hafez shared. Her perseverance allowed her to secure a spot in the round of 16, a milestone she is incredibly proud of.
Hafez’s Olympic journey in Paris was particularly special, marking her third appearance at the Games. Her previous performances were in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020, where she placed 36th and 29th, respectively. The Paris 2024 Olympics provided an additional highlight with the introduction of a nursery in the Olympic Village, a first for the Games, which Hafez was grateful for.

Reflecting on her experience, Hafez expressed, “This specific Olympics was different; Three times Olympian but this time carrying a little Olympian one! ❤️” Her story is a testament to the extraordinary lengths athletes go to in pursuit of their dreams, and the unwavering support from loved ones and family.
Hafez’s performance not only showcases her athletic prowess but also her remarkable ability to balance the demands of elite competition with the challenges of pregnancy. As she moves forward, her journey will remain a cherished memory, both as a successful Olympian and as a soon-to-be mother.
