Actor Jay Johnston, known for his role as the villainous Jimmy Pesto Sr. on the popular Fox animated series “Bob’s Burgers,” is reportedly preparing to plead guilty for his alleged involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. Johnston faces four counts, including felony obstruction of officers, related to the insurrection.
According to court documents obtained by The Daily Beast, Johnston is expected to change his plea from not guilty to guilty during a plea agreement hearing scheduled for July 8. CCTV footage from the day of the insurrection allegedly shows Johnston “handing up a stolen U.S. Capitol police shield to other rioters.”
Johnston’s alleged participation in the riots led to his removal from the “Bob’s Burgers” cast. The actor’s involvement in the insurrection came as a shock to many, including his former collaborator, comedian Paul F. Tompkins.
“Somebody you haven’t been in touch with in a while, and then you see them at the Capitol Riot, I think that’s a shocking thing for sure,” Tompkins told The Daily Beast in January.
Johnston’s case adds to the ongoing legal repercussions for those involved in the January 6 insurrection. His upcoming plea agreement highlights the seriousness of the charges he faces and underscores the continued efforts to hold participants accountable for their actions on that day.
