Donald Trump’s lawyer, Alina Habba, has stated that legal action against President Joe Biden may not be the answer in response to the tragic death of nursing student Laken Riley. Riley was allegedly murdered by Jose Antonio Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant, in Athens, Georgia, leading some Republicans to blame Biden for the incident, citing issues at the southern border.
Habba, in an interview with Newsmax, acknowledged Biden’s responsibility but suggested that lawsuits might not be the most effective response. She highlighted the importance of focusing on securing the border and preserving presidential immunity, stating, “Lawsuits and litigation, you know, unfortunately, are not always the answer. They take time unless you’re Trump.”
The claim of presidential immunity is currently being made in Trump’s election interference case in Washington, D.C. A federal appeals court recently ruled that Trump is not immune from criminal prosecution, allowing special counsel Jack Smith to proceed with charges related to Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Habba’s comments come amidst political discussions, with Georgia Rep. Mike Collins blaming Biden and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas for Riley’s death. Georgia state senator Jason Esteves, a Democrat, emphasized empathy for Riley’s family and criticized using the incident for political gain.
As discussions continue, it remains to be seen if any legal action will be taken against President Biden in connection to Riley’s tragic death.
