Halle Berry, the Oscar-winning actress known for her iconic roles, recently expressed her admiration for Pierce Brosnan, her co-star in the 2002 James Bond film “Die Another Day.” Despite the film being critically panned, Berry holds Brosnan in high regard, crediting him with restoring her faith in men.
In a recent interview with Wired, Berry, who played the fierce National Security Agency operative Jinx Johnson, revealed her deep appreciation for Brosnan’s character and professionalism. “He will always be my Bond, always,” Berry said. “I’m a Pierce Brosnan fan. He restored my faith in men on that movie. There couldn’t be a human who is more of a gentleman than Pierce Brosnan.”
Berry’s praise comes as she reflects on her involvement in the James Bond franchise, a cinematic history she feels honored to be part of. “I loved those movies, always,” she continued. “Having been in one, I feel like I’m a part of cinematic history. Those movies are iconic. They will forever be a part of our history, and I’m really honored to have been part of one, especially with Pierce.”
Though “Die Another Day” marked Brosnan’s final appearance as the legendary spy, the film failed to resonate with critics. Released in 2002, it was overshadowed by the success of the more grounded spy thriller “The Bourne Identity.” Critics, like Todd McCarthy of Variety, criticized the film for pushing the Bond franchise into “CGI-driven, quasi-sci-fi territory” that felt disconnected from its roots. Nevertheless, Berry’s experience on set was overwhelmingly positive, largely thanks to Brosnan.
Beyond her Bond days, Berry has been busy promoting her latest project, “The Union,” alongside Mark Wahlberg. She also recently celebrated her 58th birthday and marked the 20th anniversary of “Catwoman” with a bold photoshoot, proudly embracing her past roles, despite the mixed reviews.
Reflecting on her Bond experience, Berry admitted that being in a Bond film wasn’t initially on her wishlist, but she now cherishes the opportunity to be part of such a legendary franchise. As she continues to make waves in Hollywood, her fond memories of working with Brosnan stand as a testament to the lasting impact of kindness and professionalism on set.
