Hamas terrorists reportedly killed a Canadian-Israeli mother, Adi Vital-Kaploun, in front of her two young children during a surprise siege on October 7. The assailants not only took her life but also subjected her body to a sickening act of brutality, booby-trapping it with explosives. Vital-Kaploun’s sons, four-year-old Negev and four-month-old Eshel, witnessed the entire gruesome event, leaving them traumatized.
The attack occurred in Holit, a kibbutz near the Gaza Strip, where Vital-Kaploun found herself alone with her children as the terrorists breached the area. Friends revealed that the attackers booby-trapped her body and concealed it under her son’s bed, illustrating the chilling extent of their cruelty. Negev, the eldest son, saw his mother murdered before his eyes, an experience that will haunt him forever.
During the siege, Vital-Kaploun and her sons tried to hide upon hearing grenades and gunfire. Despite their efforts, the terrorists found them and heartlessly shot her. The assailants then used the traumatized children as human shields during their escape, subjecting them to further horrors.
A neighbor, Ms. Aldjem, bravely protected the children until they were released near the Gaza Strip. Their perilous journey back to safety was marked by destruction and blood, as houses burned, and vehicles were incinerated in the wake of the attack.
The international community has expressed outrage and condemnation. The United States, led by President Joe Biden, has pledged unwavering support for Israel, promising additional assistance. Reports indicating Iran’s involvement in planning the attack have raised concerns about regional stability.
The community is reeling from the loss of Vital-Kaploun and the unimaginable trauma endured by her children. Moshiko Bengiat, a friend, emphasized the urgency for action, comparing the incident to the magnitude of 9/11. “This is our 9/11. Except they weren’t killed in an airplane crash, they were murdered one by one. The retaliation we’re expecting is literally the annihilation of the entire strip,” Bengiat stated, underlining the gravity of the situation.
The world watches in horror and solidarity as efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice intensify, with the hope that such atrocities will never occur again.
