Newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, has responded to criticism of his Christian faith from liberals and the media, asserting that such attacks do not bother him. Johnson, an Evangelical Christian, addressed comments made by various media personalities, including MSNBC host Jen Psaki and HBO host Bill Maher, who ridiculed him for his religious beliefs. In an interview with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, Johnson emphasized that he’s not attempting to establish Christianity as the national religion and that his Christian faith is centered on the Bible’s commands to love and show peace toward all people.
Johnson explained that the Bible’s greatest command is to love God and love one’s neighbor, which he believes makes it impossible to be a hateful person while following these commands. He strongly rejected comparisons of his faith to extremist groups like the Taliban, labeling such comparisons as “disgusting.” Despite the attacks on his faith, Johnson remains steadfast and resolute, accepting that such criticism comes with leadership.
In addition to defending his faith, Johnson discussed ongoing investigations into Hunter Biden and his father’s foreign business dealings. He suggested that GOP-controlled committees might issue subpoenas to compel Hunter Biden’s testimony, emphasizing the urgency to uncover the truth and shed light on these issues. Johnson’s commitment to transparency and accountability reflects his dedication to upholding the principles and ideals upon which the nation was built, ensuring that the American people receive the answers they deserve.
